“Clare Journal”, Monday Evening, April 16, 1906:

PLAYED ON 15/4/1906
First game: Ennis 1-4; Cloonanaha 0.4. Referee, Mr. F. Linnane

Second game: Kilnamona v Kilmaley

Kilnamona and Kilmaley were quickly on the field and the spectators settled down to witness a determined match, both teams being veterans of the game. More than usual interest was centred on the result, as it was the first match in which the parish rule played an important part. And we may here remark that the County Board have no reason to complain of their action in this matter. During the first half hour play was fast and exciting. Kilnamona drew first blood with a minor which was quickly followed by another from Kilmaley, All through the half hour both sides made matters hot for each other in turn and when the referee’s whistle sounded, play stood at Kilnamona 1-2 Kilmaley 0-3.
After change of sides play was of a give and take character for about five minutes when Kilnamona put on a spurt and scored a major. Puck out brought no relief to Kilmaley and the red flag was again hoisted for Kilnamona. Kilmaley now seemed to lack much of the energy and determination displayed by them in the first half hour and it soon became apparent that Kilnamona were to be easy winners. When the final whistle sounded the scores were Kilnamona 3-5, Kilmaley 0-4.
Mr. Cuddihy acted as referee and in this capacity gave satisfaction to all. The following were the pick of the Kilnamona team: McDonnell, Rynne, Brody (2), Cullinan and Commane, whilst for Ki1ma1ey, Darcy, P. Neylon, F. Cassidy, Meaney, Hehir and Pyne distinguished themselves.
A special word of praise is due to the Inagh Committee for the admirable manner in which the field arrangements were carried out and the conduct of the players in both matches was such as to credit any association, Our Gaels may feel confident that if they continue to act in the manly spirit and take defeat and victory with such equally good grace, they need not fear that the efforts to make inroads in their association will have any effect, no matter from how powerful or influential a source it may emanate.
