KILMALEY......... 6-5 ST. JOSEPH'S ....... 5-2

"Clare Champion", Saturday, July 16th, 1960: KILMALEY WIN TOURNEY

ONE of the most exciting games played at Cusack Park, Ennis, for a long time was the opinion of most of the spectators after they had seen Kilmaley create a major surprise by beating St. Joseph's in the final of the Junior Hurling Tournament in aid of the Poor Clares' Buidling Fund, in Ennis on Sunday last.
Although the game was played in continuous rain, the standard of hurling was high and the pace fast, keeping the crowd of 800 on their toes to the final whistle. Full marks to the men of Kilmaley who before the match were not given the slightest chance of beating the 'Saints' but spirit and determination brought them a six points victory.
Best for the winners were Sean Fitzpatrick, the McMahon brothers—Michael, Joe and Jim, Michael Killeen and Joe Killeen. For the losers Sean Reddan (goal), Oliver Meere, Gerry Roberts, Michael Hehir and Sean Garvey tried hardest.
After the match the Chairman of the Carnival Commitee, Mr. Des McCullough, presented the St. John's Cup to John Fitzpatrick, captain of the winning team. This was Kilmaley's first major title for several years.
Mr. Louis Halpin, Newmarket on Fergus, was in charge of the game.
